I have always been fascinated by how many times my life has been drastically altered by the smallest event. Everyone has similar stories, but they tend to be based on something so personal that they all too often don't have an emotional connection strong enough to understand the impact that small changes can have on someone else's world.
I wanted to quantify what might be the smallest dimension that could effect the largest change in one's life, so that we would all be starting out at the same point as far as understanding how so little can mean so much. The idea to allow someone to change their life by the dimension of three inches was really the exact distance that I thought I could use to alter several aspects of my own life and, in a sense, make it perfect.
It was always obvious to me to take the three inches of change and divide them up so as not to overdo any one thing. As I've discussed the concept of the movie with people, I'm always amazed at some of the quick and simple choices that people make. I'm equally impressed with how powerfully some of the more thoughtful choices reflect not only what's going on in someone's mind, but also in their view of themselves and the world.
I most certainly want people to see the movie and keep talking about what they might do with the opportunity. We purposely left some of the more unique possibilities out of the film in order to let people think about their choice without any boundaries, but I really hope that most people understand the impact of the last choice that's made in the film and how it pertains to their own real life.
